EMPLOYER FAQs

Why should I use the Wage Subsidy Program?
Financial Benefits ““ Wage Subsidy provides reimbursement of a portion of an employee’s wage while they develop the skills you need. The amount of the reimbursement is based on the gap between the employees existing skills and the skills needed to do the job you are hiring them for.

In addition to the financial benefit you will have an employee who has skills developed specifically for your company’s needs. The subsidy allows you to bring new staff up to speed while only paying a portion of their wage.

Who Can I Hire?
The program is open to unemployed individuals that have an attachment to Employment Insurance. This means they are on Employment Insurance or have been on Employment Insurance in the last 3 years or have had a parental claim within the last 5 years and are now returning to work.
How Much Work Is It?
It’s a quick and easy. All we require is a company overview, a training plan and some basic information. We are happy to help you complete the forms if you need a hand. Just remember that the contract must be approved before the employee starts. If you hire and start the person we cannot write a contract for a wage subsidy after the fact.

If potential employees are not already registered with Global just have them contact us and we will find out whether they are eligible for the program.

Can I advertise a position with Global Vocational Services?
Absolutely. We regularly post positions on our website, in our offices and send them out to resource centers where job seekers search for employment.
What else is involved?
The process is quick and easy. During the course of the subsidy we do a couple of monitors to make sure things are going well and we reimburse you for our portion of the person’s wage within five days of approving your claims.
How successful is this program?
It’s incredibly successful because it benefits both the employees and employers. We have helped employers get valued employees that stay and help make their companies flourish. Our success rate for people who stay on with employers after the wage subsidy ends is over 85%.
